East Lothian (/ ˈ l oʊ ð i ə n /; Scots: Aest Lowden; Scottish Gaelic: Lodainn an Ear) is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament covering most of the council area of East Lothian. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election.
The constituency was formerly known as East Lothian. It was renamed as a result of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies . [ 2 ] It is first being contested under the new name at the 2024 general election .
Lothian is one of the eight electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament. Nine of the parliament's 73 first past the post constituencies are sub-divisions of the region and it elects seven of the 56 additional-member Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) .
He was a member of East Lothian Council, representing the Haddington and Lammermuir ward, [8] having been elected in a by-election in 2019. [5] Hoy contested the East Lothian seat in the 2019 United Kingdom general election, where he finished third. [9] Hoy stood in East Lothian at the 2021 Scottish Parliament election, coming third. [10]
