John T. Struble's great-grandfather, Dietrich Struble [2] (1714–1807), was the progenitor of the Struble family in America. After Dietrich and his wife Elizabeth emigrated from Albig bei Alzey, Germany they tarried for a time in the Netherlands until arranging a relationship of intentured servitude with William Allen (loyalist) of Allentown PA fame.
The Iowa Department of Human Services operated the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo until its closing in 2014. The buildings sat empty until 2023 when the cottages were demolished to make way for the new South Tama Middle School. The new Middle School is set to be completed in 2025.
