Fort (Colombo) (Sinhala: කොටුව; Tamil: கோட்டை) is the central business district of Colombo in Sri Lanka. It is the financial district of Colombo and the location of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the World Trade Centre of Colombo from which the CSE operates. It is also the location of the Bank of Ceylon headquarters.
Investment in shares in Sri Lanka and repatriation of proceeds take place through Share Investment External Rupee Accounts (SIERA) opened with licensed commercial banks. Income from investments such as interest, dividends, and profit realized from such investments are not subject to exchange control regulations by the Sri Lankan government.
In January 2016, Commercial Bank of Ceylon announced that for the first time in Sri Lanka's banking history that the users of the bank's online banking facility could make instant, real-time transfers of funds from their commercial bank accounts to accounts in other banks via LankaPay-CEFTS. [10]
