The Browning Hi-Power is a single-action, semi-automatic pistol available in the 9×19mm Parabellum and .40 S&W calibers. Firearms use triggers to initiate the firing of a cartridge seated within the gun barrel chamber. This is accomplished by actuating a striking device through a combination of mainspring (which stores elastic energy), a trap mechanism that can hold the spring under tension, an intermediate mechanism to transmit the kinetic energy from the spring releasing, and a firing pin to eventually strike ...
The Norinco NP-18 is a Chinese copy of the FEG P9R. The handgun uses the 9×19mm Parabellum round, which is common in this type of guns. It has a heavy duty forged (not cast) steel frame and slide, which makes it one of the most solid, robust self-loading pistols that are actually in the market, because, unlike cast steel, forged steel is made with strength and toughness in mind.
There is a grip safety blocking the sear unless fully compressed, but the control in the same position as a thumb safety on a Browning Hi-Power or M1911-style pistol is not a safety. The take-down lever is used to lock the slide back (as the Browning Hi-Power safety is used) during disassembly to allow removal of the slide release lever.

The trigger pull for the FNP-9 variant is generally 8 pounds-force (36 N) while in double action, and 3 to 4 pounds-force (13 to 18 N) while in single action. While the lower frame is made of high-strength polymer, the slide is made of stainless steel. Disassembly and reassembly of the handgun is relatively simple.
