Bear Mountain State Park is a 5,205-acre (21.06 km 2) state park located on the west bank of the Hudson River in Rockland and Orange counties, New York. [ 2 ] [ 5 ] The park offers biking, hiking, boating, picnicking, swimming, cross-country skiing , cross-country running, sledding and ice skating.
It is crossed by several hiking trails as well, including the oldest section of the Appalachian Trail (AT). As of 2021, the AT across Bear Mountain has been improved by the New York–New Jersey Trail Conference to minimize erosion and improve accessibility and sustainability as part of a project to rebuild and realign the trail that began in 2006.
