Shook Lin & Bok began in 1918 as Messrs Yong Shook Lin, a Kuala Lumpur law firm. That year, Yong Shook Lin was admitted as the first Chinese to the Malayan bar after graduating from Cambridge University. In 1938, the firm recruited another partner, Tan Teow Bok, and was renamed Messrs Shook Lin & Bok.
The Kuala Lumpur Bar is led by a Committee comprising the Chairman of the KL Bar and ten other members who are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. The committee is also empowered to co-opt two additional members into the committee. The co-opted members can participate in the deliberations of the committee but have no vote.

Tommy Thomas (born 3 September 1952) is a Malaysian barrister and the former Attorney General of Malaysia from 2018 to 2020. [1] [2] [3] He was the first practising barrister to be appointed directly from the Malaysian Bar to be the Attorney General, [4] and the first non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysian to hold this post after the formation of Malaysia in 1963.
