Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest is a double album [2] with twenty tracks and over sixty-three minutes in length, making it Callahan's longest album to date. [3] The album received favorable reviews, with Pitchfork contributing editor Jayson Greene referring to it as a "highlight of his career".
Each weekly release was accompanied by a sketch drawn by Callahan. The sketches, which differed every week, were completed during preparations for a Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest tour. [13] The album, which is named after the RIAA Gold certification, consists mainly of some of Callahan's old and unfinished songs. [14]

Megan Callahan-Shah (born February 1985) is an American television writer known for her work on Saturday Night Live. Callahan-Shah was born in Illinois to Paul and Jane Callahan in Downers Grove, Illinois. She graduated from Benet Academy in 2003. Red Apple Falls was recorded by Jim O'Rourke and Callahan, with assistance from Phil Bonnet. It is the first of two Smog records produced by O'Rourke, and Callahan's third team-up with O'Rourke. O'Rourke also plays bass guitar, piano, Hammond organ, hurdy-gurdy and drums on the album.
