The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. Imu reveals to Cobra that "D." links to a historic mistake by Nefertari Lili, which unleashed the Poneglyphs. After Cobra confirms Lili’s full name has a "D." in it, Imu stabs him. Sabo intervenes but flees with Cobra, who wants to send a message to Luffy and Vivi that the entire Nefertari family has "D." in their names.
Luffy befriends Ace and Sabo, who are like brothers to him, but Sabo is seemingly killed by a World Noble. After returning to Marineford to send a hidden message to his crew, Luffy trains with Rayleigh on Ruskaina Island to learn Haki. Two years later, the Straw Hats reunite and finally make it to Fishman Island.
As Luffy and the others take this in, Dogstorm and Cat Viper decide to call a truce and be more friendly to one other to which the rest of the Minks rejoice. They then all journey to the large tree in the whale forest entering a secret door in the tail which leads to a hidden underground chamber.
