Joyce Hoffman (born 1946/47) is an American surfer, considered a pioneer in her sport. She is often regarded as the first female international surfing star [1] and was one of the first inductees of the International Surfing Hall of Fame. In 1968 she became the first woman to surf the Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii.
Mary Ann Hawkins (March 7, 1919 – January 28, 1993) was an American surfer, paddleboarder, swimmer, and stunt-woman. [1] Inspired by Duke Kahanamoku, she began swimming at a young age which led to her subsequent accomplishments in surfing, paddleboarding, and stunt work in Hollywood.

Calhoun was born in Hollywood in 1924. She spent her childhood weekends with her family on Venice Beach and Santa Monica, practicing swimming and diving. Calhoun was a competitive swimmer, having trained for the 1940 Summer Olympics, before the event was cancelled due to World War II. [5] She also worked as a stunt performer.
She was named the "1998 Female Athlete of the Year" by Conde Nast Sports for Women magazine. She is a two-times winner of Surfer Magazine's Readers Poll.
