Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) is the only public university specializing in textile engineering in Bangladesh. It graduated from a college to a full-flagged university on 22 December 2010 by an ordinance of Education Ministry. It has a glorious history starting as a weaving school under British colonial rule in 1921.

The corporation was established on 26 March 1972 through the nationalization of textile mills in Bangladesh. [4] [5] It owns Eagle Textile in Chittagong. [6]The Ministry for Textiles and Jute is responsible for running the corporation. [7]

Department of Textiles (Bengali: বস্ত্র অধিদপ্তর) is a department of the government of Bangladesh under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute which is responsible for the Textile industry in Bangladesh. [1] The function of the department is to act as guardian for this economic sector and to address its needs. [2]
In February 2020, the central bank of Bangladesh found that Janata Bank had rescheduled Dragon Group loans with collateral payment, which was done as per banking regulations. [ 20 ] Like other textile factories in Bangladesh , Dragon Group was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. [ 21 ]
