The Hippodrome Theatre (locally known as The Hippodrome or The Hipp) is a regional professional theatre in downtown Gainesville, Florida, United States. It was founded in 1973 by local actors and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on July 10, 1979. [2] [3]
The facility, upon completion, was named for Henry Philip Constans, the founder of the Florida Players (originally called the dramatic club of the University of Florida). He also headed the Department of Speech from 1931 to 1967 during which time he had the responsibility for the Florida Players both in advisory and directing capacities.
