The 1821 Georgia Land Lottery opened portions of state land for settlement between the Flint and Ocmulgee rivers, including present-day DeKalb County. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation ceded the land to the United States in January of that year, and drawings for lots measuring 202.5 acres (81.9 ha) each began in May in Milledgeville, the state capital until 1868.
By the mid-1800s it became common for courthouses to still be made of wood, but out of wood that had been processed into boards instead of unhewed logs. The Old Marion County Courthouse in Tazewell, Georgia and the Old Chattahoochee County Courthouse are only two surviving wooden courthouses in Georgia. Neither are currently in use as a courthouse.
State Route 236 is a 10.30-mile (16.58 km) long state highway in Fulton County and DeKalb County, Georgia. The route begins at Piedmont Road in south Buckhead and ends at Lawrenceville Highway (US 29/SR 8) in Tucker. It is signed as Lindbergh Drive in Fulton County, and LaVista Road in DeKalb County.
