A pennysaver (or free ads paper, Friday ad or shopper) is a free community periodical available in North America (typically weekly or monthly publications) that advertises items for sale. Frequently pennysavers are actually called The Pennysaver (variants include Penny Saver , Penny-saver , PennySaver ).
The paper was first acquired by Advance's founder, Samuel Newhouse Sr., in 1955. [1] The Times is a sister paper to two other Advance-owned publications within Alabama, The Birmingham News and the (Mobile) Press-Register. On October 1, 2012, all three papers went from daily to thrice-weekly print schedules.
In a modular system ad sizes are represented by the amount of the total page the ad takes up. For example 1/2 page, 1/4 page, 1/8 page, etc. This has been a popular system among many newspapers because it simplifies the layout process (i.e. less ad sizes to fit in newspaper) and makes pricing much easier for an advertiser to understand.
