The Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a protected wildlife refuge located in the Amargosa Valley of southern Nye County, in southwestern Nevada.It is directly east of Death Valley National Park, and is 90 mi (140 km) west-northwest of Las Vegas.
Nevada DOT has been attempting to remove some urban routes from the state highway system since the 1990s, preferring to transfer control of these roadways to local municipalities. This is especially apparent in Carson City , where all of the city's state routes have been gradually removed since 2011.
A connection between Goodsprings and U.S. Route 91 (and SR 6) at Jean first appeared on official Nevada state maps in 1933. At that time, it was an unimproved county road. [3] By 1935, that road was incorporated into State Route 53, which connected Jean to Goodsprings before curving southwest towards the California state line. [4]
State Route 232 begins in the Clover Valley on Clover Valley Road about five miles (8.0 km) south of Steeles Creek, at the north end of Elko County Route 782. Scotty's Castle Road first appears as an unimproved County road in 1932 edition of the state highway map, connecting State Route 5 (now US 95) to Death Valley via the town of Bonnie Claire. [2] The road was designated State Route 72 by 1942, [3] and had been paved by 1952. [4] State Route 267 was assigned to former SR 72 on July 1, 1976. [5]
The highway was fully paved by 1971, but still had no route number on the state map. [4] The entire road was removed from state highway maps entirely beginning with the 1973 edition. [ 5 ] Despite this, the highway officially became State Route 293 on July 1, 1976, when Nevada officials began renumbering the state's numbered routes. [ 6 ]
