As at the time of Parallex Bank's transitioning, it left behind 875 Microfinance Banks in Nigeria, out of which 9 have national licenses, 98 operate at state level, and 768 operate as Unit Microfinance Banks. [3] In 2021, Mr. Femi Bakre was appointed as managing director of Parallex Bank. [4]
The Bank was licensed as Nigeria's first merchant Bank in 1969. Consequent to the indigenisation decree of 1972, the Bank became fully government owned and was managed in partnership with Grindlays Bank Limited, Continental International Finance Company Illinois and American Express Bank Limited between 1974 and 1992.
