SIG Sauer system. The SIG Sauer system is a type of action found in self-loading handguns. It is a refinement of designs based on the work of both John M. Browning and Charles Petter which began with the Colt Model 1900, progressed to the French Model 1935A, and later the SIG P210 handgun.
The trigger, hammer, mainspring, and sear assembly were contained in one unit. Petter's design impressed the Swiss company Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (now known as SIG Group); in 1937, they purchased a license from SACM in order to produce their model 47/8 handgun, which became the SIG P210. This single-action semi-automatic P210 brought SIG much acclaim, due to the precision processes employed in its manufacture and its resultant accuracy and reliability. The P210 frame design incorporates external rails that fit closely with the slide, thus eliminating play in the mechanism during firing. The P210 was noted for its extreme accuracy.
The Swiss Modell 06/29 pistol served the Swiss Army until well after the adoption of a SIG P210 in 1949, and remained in limited service until the late 1960s. The SIG P210 was also manufactured in this caliber, but only for civilian use; Swiss military issues of the P210 were chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum.
