Leroy Greene Academy was preceded by Leroy F. Greene Middle School, which was opened on July 1, 1980, serving grades 6-8. [3] It was closed by the Natomas Unified School District in 2010 as a cost-saving measure and also due to the school's failure to reach academic benchmarks. [4] [5] Leroy F. Greene was closed instead of an elementary school.

There is also Westlake Charter School (K-8) which moved to a new campus in Natomas Park in 2017 and Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep Academy (K-12, college prep). NP3 K–5 is located in a temporary location on East Commerce Way near the old ARCO Arena site while the middle school and high school portion are located on Del Paso Road.
