The 2010 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on December 2, 2010 and ended December 18, when Penn State swept California to win an unprecedented fourth straight NCAA title, making it their fifth overall. Penn State head coach Russ Rose became the first Division I coach to win five NCAA titles.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers women's beach volleyball team began play in the spring of 2013 as the school's twenty-second intercollegiate sport. In 2016, the NCAA began sponsoring a beach volleyball tournament (previously the sport was run by the AVCA ), but Nebraska did not attempt to qualify.
In 1991, Georgia went 28-8 and made the 1991 NCAA women's volleyball tournament, where they lost to Texas Tech in the first round. [ 3 ] Under coach Lams, Georgia made five straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 1991 to 1995, including making the third round in 1993 and making the second round in 1994 and 1995 .
On November 1, 2005, NCAA named an NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball 25th Anniversary Team. [4] The team featured Middle Blocker Deitre Collins and Coach Dave Shoji as head coach, of seven total honorees. Tonya "Teee" Williams had also been further named to the 1980s NCAA all-Decade team for accolades.
