Siddig had some dispute about toy rights, and then he had his passive aggressive phase over turning into Spock. Those were sources of tension in the cast. Visitor was/is the glue of the cast. She got along with everyone--obviously Siddig--but has been close to Auberjonois and Brooks. Siddig and Meaney are close.
Admiral. Aug 19, 2021. #6. You wouldn't be blacklisted for being a socialist. That was big in 1950, but socialism is pretty mainstream nowadays. And honestly, if Brooks had been blacklisted, the whole Trek community would have been up in arms when it happened, unless he had REALLY done something to deserve it. Practicing a mere philosophy would ...
1. Avery Brooks has gone completely insane. 2. The day that they filmed this, Brooks had a high fever or was on some serious medication. 3. It was all a put-on, just Brooks having some fun at Shatner's expense. 4. Shatner recut the footage to make Brooks look crazy.

It was all a put-on, just Brooks having some fun at Shatner's expense. 4. Shatner recut the footage to make Brooks look crazy. Listening to him speak was absolutely exasperating.
That said, Avery Brooks has never been lacking for work and he is not one of those Trek actors who cling to Star Trek like a toddler clings to a blankie because they don't have anything else on their resume worth having. Brooks was successful before Star Trek, and he has been successful since.
Avery Brooks played my favorite STAR TREK captain. I saw his documentary with Shatner, and while it seems like he's out there, it's his prerogative. I have seen his panels durung DragonCon appearances, and he is a very intelligent, insightful man. I would have loved to be in one of his classes while he was teaching.
Brooks is usually either fulminatingly angry or weirdly, almost hysterically enthusiastic. In the Dax episode "Equilibrium," however, Brooks looks and sounds, frankly, bored. To be fair, Equilibrium is a bit of a boring episode as well. It's alright, just very subdued with lots of exposition talk.
Mar 16, 2020. #14. DS9forever said: Brooks was mentioned by Winston Duke (the new Hawk) in a recent interview: "Avery Brooks’ turn as Hawk was so meaningful for black viewers who got to see this cool, debonair black brother who was doing an unorthodox job at the time and just killing it.
Admiral. Sep 6, 2021. #27. If such a phone call was indeed placed, there’s a whole range of opinions Brooks could have expressed about race relations that a reactionary race alarmist could interpret as “Hates white people”. It’s well established he insisted all Sisko’s love interests to be black.
Avery Brooks has been incognito the past few years. Missing from participation in the DS9 doc and from conventions. When speaking to Cirroc Lofton at Mission NY in 2016 he mentioned that he is "fine" and that they both speak almost daily over the phone. Hope he is well as there were rumors of mental health related issues.
