The Hermit Trail, a hiking trail that extends to the Colorado River, begins about ¼ mile beyond the shuttle bus stop at Hermits Rest. Hermits Rest also represents the western terminus of the Rim Trail. The location was named for Louis Boucher. Around 1891, Boucher – a Canadian-born prospector – staked claims below present-day Hermits Rest.
The Hermit Trail traverses the east flank of Hermit Canyon down to the Colorado River, where it intersects the Tonto Trail at Cope Butte. At the end of Hermit Creek, and Canyon, the Hermit Rapids interrupt the flow of the Colorado River. Historic Hermit Camp was located at the end of the Hermit Trail, near the Colorado River.

Specimen Ridge, el. 8,379 feet (2,554 m) is an approximately 8.5-mile (13.7 km) ridge along the south rim of the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park. The ridge separates the Lamar Valley from Mirror Plateau. The ridge is oriented northwest to southeast from the Tower Junction area to Amethyst Mountain.
