On 14 August 2018, Excision released his fourth studio album, Apex. The album took two years to make and it contains 14 songs and collaborations with artists including Dion Timmer, Sullivan King, Space Laces, Illenium and others. Adam Puleo, better known by his alias Wooli, is an American briddim, riddim and dubstep DJ and producer. He is known for the songs "Island" and "Another Me", with the prior being a collaboration with American dubstep producers Seven Lions and Trivecta and the latter being a collaboration with Seven Lions and Canadian producer and DJ Excision.
Destroid was formed after several years of Excision's North American tours, as well as collaborations with Downlink for nu-metal band Korn. Near the end of March, Illenium tweeted that he and Excision were working together, with Excision teasing a project file on Instagram a month later.
