[1] Dibru College was established in 1963 situated at Boiragimoth, the heart of Dibrugarh city. Today the college provides major courses altogether in twelve out of twenty one subjects. The Government of India has identified the college as a Biotechnology hub too. The college has received a grant from the Department of Science and Technology.
The Dibrugarh University Campus is located at Rajabheta, Dibrugarh city and is spread over an area of 500 acres. [3] The NH15 (old NH37) bisects the main campus from the other, the latter primarily comprising teacher's and officer's residence. The university is well connected by rail, road and air.

Since the defeat of the royalists troops at Amaratali of Dibru in 1787 A.D. in the reign of Gaurinath Singha, during the Moamoria rebellion this region came under the Moamarias who also formed there a dominant religious community. [better source needed] Dibrugarh became a separate district when it was split from Lakhimpur on 2 October 1971. [5]
