The latter name appeared simultaneously with the creation of Kirovograd Oblast, on January 10, 1939 [6] and was aimed at differentiating the region from Kirov Oblast in present-day Russia. After Ukraine regained independence, the name of the city started to be spelled according to Ukrainian pronunciation as Kirovohrad.

Zavallia (Ukrainian: Завалля; Russian: Завалье) is a rural settlement in Holovanivsk Raion of Kirovohrad Oblast in Ukraine. It is located on the left bank of the Southern Bug.
