Citrus unshiu is a semi-seedless and easy-peeling citrus species, also known as the satsuma mandarin or Japanese mandarin. [1] During the Edo period of Japan, kishu mikans were more popular because there was a popular superstition that eating Citrus unshiu without seeds made people prone to infertility.
Dekopon (デコポン) is a seedless and sweet variety of satsuma orange. It is a hybrid between Kiyomi and ponkan (Nakano no. 3), developed in Japan in 1972. [1] [2] Originally a brand name, "Dekopon" has become a genericized trademark and it is used to refer to all brands of the fruit; the generic name is shiranuhi or shiranui (不知火).
The leaves have a petiole up to 1 m (3 ft 3 in) long, and a palmate fan of leaflets up to 1 m (3 ft 3 in) long. The petioles are armed with sharp thorns . The inflorescence is up to 3 m (10 ft) long, with numerous small, pale orange-pink flowers .

Crataegus rhipidophylla is a shrub or tree which can grow to 7 metres (23 ft) tall. [4] Its stout thorns can be up to 1.5 cm (5 ⁄ 8 in) long. [2] Leaf blades are dark green, with 2–4 pairs of acute or subacuminate lobes. [2] A helpful characteristic trait for identification is the finely serrated lobe margin.
New twigs and stems are glabrous, with one year old bark a brownish purple, older growth is dull gray. The thorns found on twigs can be straight or recurved. Once the thorns have been on the tree for two years they are a shiny purplish black, and 4 to 7 cm long. Typically older branches and the trunk do not have thorns. [citation needed]
