The Blue Moon of Josephine is a 12.03 carats (2.406 g) blue diamond, described as flawless by experts, that was discovered in South Africa in January 2014 and was sold at a Sotheby's auction in Geneva in November 2015 at a record-setting price of $48.4 million (43.2 million Swiss francs plus fees). The Oppenheimer Blue is a 14.62-carat (2.924 g) vivid blue diamond that in May 2016 became the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction, until April 2017 when it was surpassed by the Pink Star diamond. [1] [2] [3] The diamond was named for its previous owner Philip Oppenheimer. [4] It is cut into a rectangle (emerald cut). [5]
The diamond is classified as a Type IIb "fancy blue" diamond, and was graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as "Very, Very Slightly Included", or VVS2. The stone was unveiled in April 2019, and is the largest ever blue diamond found in the country. [3] The stone is anticipated to be sold in November 2019.
The Heart of Eternity is a diamond measuring 27.64 carats (5.528 g), rated in color as "Fancy Vivid Blue" by the Gemological Institute of America. The Heart of Eternity was cut by the Steinmetz Group, who owned the diamond before selling it to the De Beers Group. The Heart of Eternity is a member of an exceedingly rare class of coloured diamonds.
The Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond is a 31.06-carat (6.212 g) deep-blue diamond with internally flawless clarity, originating in the Kollur Mine, India. Laurence Graff purchased the Wittelsbach Diamond in 2008 for £16.4 million. In 2010, Graff revealed he had had the diamond cut by three diamond cutters to remove flaws.
