Columbia, formerly Wright's Ferry, is a borough (town) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census , it had a population of 10,222. [ 3 ] It is 28 miles (45 km) southeast of Harrisburg , on the east (left) bank of the Susquehanna River , across from Wrightsville and York County and just south of U.S. Route 30 .
Notable non-residential buildings include the Reading and Columbia Freight Station (1883), Holy Trinity Catholic Church and School (1915), American Legion Post 469, Women's Club, Columbia Lodge #1074 BPOE, Columbia Town Hall (1874, 1947), St. Paul's Episcopal Church (1888), Franklin Hotel (c. 1833), and Columbia Water Company (1849 and later).
Founded in 1743, the community was so named on account of a flouring mill near the original town site. [3] In 1940, the Pennsylvania guide, compiled by the Writers' Program of the Works Progress Administration, noted that regional farmers had previously come to the area to buy supplies and "have their wheat ground by the millers along the Wissahickon.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 16.6 square miles (43.1 km 2), of which 16.1 square miles (41.8 km 2) is land and 0.50 square miles (1.3 km 2), or 3.08%, is water. [4] Catawissa Mountain from Fisher Run Road in Main Township
Scott Township is at the geographic center of Columbia County and is bordered to the west by the town of Bloomsburg (the county seat), to the northwest by Mount Pleasant Township, to the north by Orange Township, to the east by North Centre and South Centre townships, and to the south by the Susquehanna River, across which are Main Township to the south and Catawissa Township to the southwest.
The population density was 45.3 inhabitants per square mile (17.5/km 2). There were 267 housing units at an average density of 20.3 units per square mile (7.8 units/km 2). The racial makeup of the township was 99.66% White, 0.34% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.34% of the population.
