Luke 16 is the sixteenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The name "Lazarus" also appears in the Gospel of Luke in the story of Lazarus and Dives (Luke 16:19-31), which is attributed to Jesus. [68] Also called "Dives and Lazarus", or "The Rich Man and the Beggar Lazarus", the narrative tells of the relationship (in life and in death) between an unnamed rich man and a poor beggar named Lazarus.

Proponents of this view argue that the story of Lazarus and the rich man has much in common with other stories which are agreed-upon parables, both in language and content (e.g. the reversal of fortunes, the use of antithesis, and concern for the poor).
