Bowdoin is a town in Sagadahoc County, Maine, United States. Bowdoin is included in the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine metropolitan New England city and town area. The population was 3,136 at the 2020 census. [2] Bowdoin is 31 land miles north of Portland, and 21 land miles south of Augusta (Maine’s state capital).
Richmond was incorporated as part of Bowdoinham in 1762, and separated from that town in 1823. During the 19th century, it was a major local shipbuilding center, producing more than 200 ships between 1815 and 1890, the height of its economic success.
The Robert P. Carr House stands on the north side of Main Street (Maine State Route 125), a short way east of its junction with Center Street and Back Hill Road.It is an L-shaped 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story wood-frame structure, with a cross-gable roof, clapboard siding, and granite foundation.
