Bill Stone gave a talk at TED 2007 about exploring the world's deepest caves and frontier space travel. In the talk, Stone pledged his devotion to lead a mining expedition to the Moon "to mine ice thought to be trapped on the Moon's southern pole at Shackleton Crater, and to sell derived products (including propellants and other consumables) on the Moon and in low Earth orbit (LEO) to ...
The interior of the Apollo PLSS Diagram of the A7L PLSS and OPS, with interfaces to the astronaut and the Lunar Module cabin. The portable life support system used in the Apollo lunar landing missions used lithium hydroxide to remove the carbon dioxide from the breathing air, and circulated water in an open loop through a liquid-cooled garment, expelling the water into space, where it turned ...
Christian James Lambertsen (May 15, 1917 – February 11, 2011) was an American medical researcher. He was a environmental medicine and diving medicine specialist who was principally responsible for developing the United States Navy frogmen's rebreathers in the early 1940s for underwater warfare.
As the rebreather has a single "pendulum" breathing tube, the diver must breathe deeply to avoid carbon dioxide build-up. The counterlung is eight litres. [2] As with all rebreathers, the diver should breathe continuously to keep the gas flowing over the absorbent. Dives on the unit are limited to 90 minutes. [2]
It is an electronic closed circuit rebreather designed to be silent and non-magnetic. It allows diving to 60 metres (200 ft) using air as diluent, or up to 120 metres (390 ft) using heliox and trimix. [2] Some sources describe it as a "Stealth Clearance Divers Life Support Equipment." [3]
