Cities are spread far apart in the region, and it has the lowest population density of the country. There are very few paved highways in the region, as it is almost isolated from the rest of the country. It is also the biggest region of Brazil, being responsible for almost half of the Brazilian territorial extension.
Brazil borders all South American countries except Chile and Ecuador. It ranks 5th among the countries of the world in terms of area. The territory of Brazil is located on the ancient South American platform. Therefore, the relief consists of lowlands and flat mountains. In the north, a large area is occupied by the Amazonian lowland.
The Brazilian Highlands or Brazilian Plateau (Portuguese: Planalto Brasileiro) is an extensive geographical region covering most of the eastern, southern and central portions of Brazil, in all some 4,500,000 km 2 (1,930,511 sq mi) or approximately half of the country's land area.
Brazil is made up of five geographic regions (North, Northeast, Southeast, South and central-West) that comprise 27 federative units and, for their part include 5570 municipalities. In total, the municipalities are distributed in 510 immediate geographic regions, which in turn are grouped into 133 intermediate geographic regions.
Brazil has two large production centers for electronic products, located in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas, in the State of São Paulo, and in the Manaus Free Trade Zone, in the State of Amazonas. There are large internationally renowned technology companies, as well as part of the industries that participate in their supply chain.
There are 5569 municipalities in Brazil, comprising almost the entirety of the country's territory. The only exceptions are the Federal District (not divided into municipalities, but into 35 administrative regions, without any political autonomy) and the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha , which consists in a state district of Pernambuco.
