There are several prehistoric sites near Uravan on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties: [4]. Dolores Cave was inhabited from about 600 BC to AD 1400. A corn cob dated about AD 1500 was found in the site, which indicates that corn was grown in the area after the Ancient Pueblo People abandoned their Colorado pueblos in the 13th century.
Iola is an extinct town located in Gunnison County, Colorado, United States. The community was inundated and destroyed by the creation of Blue Mesa Reservoir. [1] The Iola post office operated from June 24, 1896, until August 16, 1963. [2] The name Iola reportedly was selected simply on account of it being a pleasant name. [3]
The museum presents the history of Pueblo, together with the cultural and ethnic groups of the region. The historical site includes an 1840s-style adobe trading post and plaza and the archaeological excavation site of the original 1842 El Pueblo trading post [ 3 ] which was listed on the US National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
In 1995, the town was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [6] In 1998, the Black American West Museum in Denver began to make attempts to preserve the town's site. [7] It is a Colorado Registered Historic Landmark. A 2010 monument next to one of the remaining buildings contains information about the history of the site.
Ashcroft is an extinct mining town located in Pitkin County, Colorado, United States.The silver mining camp was founded as Castle Forks City in the spring of 1880. A post office named Ashcroft operated at the site from August 12, 1880, until August 5, 1881, when the name was changed to Chloride.
