The Naankuse Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary (Juǀʼhoan: Nǀaʼankusê) is a wildlife sanctuary in central Namibia, situated c. 42 kilometres (26 mi) outside Windhoek. Besides the sanctuary the establishment also runs a carnivore conservation research programme, the Clever Cubs pre-primary school, and a clinic for the San people.
Namibia's parks and reserves range from the open bush of the centre and the north where wildlife is relatively plentiful, to the barren and inhospitable coastal strip with its huge sand dunes. The three main tourist attractions for wildlife in Namibia are Etosha National Park , Waterberg National Park and Cape Cross Seal Reserve .
The second area added was a 1,600-kilometre (1,000 mi) strip of the Atlantic Ocean, making the Namib-Naukluft Park Namibia's first marine reserve. [ 3 ] The park's present boundaries were established in 1986 when the government was given control over parts of the Sperrgebiet , an area restricted for diamond mining.
The land use is predominantly pastoral. Individual and adventure tourism is becoming important there. West of Sesfontein, the Hoanib Valley belongs to the concession area of Desert Adventure Safaris. The increasing tourism, but also the grazing pressure of the local population and the greed of mining pose a growing threat to this unique ecosystem.
