Wilton is a city in Burleigh and McLean counties in North Dakota, United States. It is part of the "Bismarck, ND Metropolitan Statistical Area" or "Bismarck-Mandan". The population was 718 at the 2020 census. [3] Founded in 1899, Wilton was named by General W. D. Washburn after the town of Wilton in his native state of Maine.
It was designed by the Hancock Brothers architectural firm from Fargo, North Dakota. [2] [3] [4] The courthouse replaced a previous courthouse built in 1905. Because of health concerns in the old building, county voters in 2010 approved the construction of a new courthouse. The 1908 courthouse was demolished in 2013. [5] [6]

The Former McLean County Courthouse in Washburn, North Dakota was built in 1905 to replace a courthouse that had burned down, and was used as a courthouse until 1917, when the new McLean County Courthouse was built. The building is now used as one of the buildings of the McLean County Historical Society Museums. [2] [3]
