Hanover Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, USA and is located at the end of the county's panhandle. As of the 2020 census, its population was 100,092 and it contained 35,007 housing units. [1] Hanover Township was established on April 2, 1850. [2] The first reported population of the Township was 672.
In regards to townships and equivalent jurisdictions, it included portions of the city of Chicago, as well as portions of Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wheeling townships. The district covered the entirety of Barrington, Hanover and Schaumburg townships. [8] The district was 128.64 square miles (82,328.36 acres). [9]
State law specifies that no two townships in Illinois shall have the same name, [3] and that, if the Illinois Secretary of State compares the township abstracts and finds a duplicate, the county that last adopted the name shall instead adopt a different name at the next county board meeting. [4]
