Cataract Falls (Indiana) Cataract Falls is a waterfall located in northern Owen County in the west central part of the U.S. state of Indiana. The largest waterfall by volume in the state, it is part of the Lieber State Recreation Area. Cataract Falls consists of two sets of waterfalls on Mill Creek separated by about 1 mile (1.6 km).
The Cataract Falls Covered Bridge is a covered bridge that spans Mill Creek in Lieber State Recreation Area, Owen County, Indiana. Built in 1876 by the Smith Bridge company of Toledo, Ohio, [2] it was at one time one of the most famous and photographed covered bridges in the United States. [3] It is the only remaining one in Owen County. [4][5]

In 1952, Cagles Mill Lake was built as Indiana's first flood−control reservoir, protecting the Eel and White river watersheds. Mill Creek feeds the 1,400-acre (570 ha) lake and is home to Cataract Falls. In the 1800s, the future Lieber State Recreation Area was populated by the Miami, Shawnee, and Potawatomi.
