Montgomery County is a county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 220,069. [3] The county seat (and only incorporated municipality) is Clarksville. When Tennessee was founded as a state on June 1, 1796, the area around Clarksville and to the east was named Tennessee County. (This county was established in 1788, by North Carolina.)
