When Isberg left Opeth three years later, Åkerfeldt took over as the lead vocalist. Åkerfeldt performed the death vocals on Katatonia's album Brave Murder Day and their EP Sounds of Decay. In September 2009, Åkerfeldt revealed he was contemplating recording a singer-songwriter acoustic solo album. [6]
Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal band from Stockholm. Formed in 1990, the group originally featured vocalist David Isberg, guitarists Mikael "Micke" Bergström and Dan Nilsson, bassist Martin Persson, and drummer Amirion "Rille" Evén. Isberg invited Mikael Åkerfeldt to play bass later that year, who in 1992 would take over as frontman.
Opeth was formed as a death metal band in April 1990 in Stockholm, Sweden, by David Isberg, with some friends from Täby; [2] [7] Isberg was the lead vocalist. [8] The band name was taken from the Wilbur Smith novel The Sunbird , in which Opet is the name of a fictional city. [ 9 ]
In 1995, Opeth released their first studio album, Orchid, and after more changes to the lineup, the band released Morningrise and My Arms, Your Hearse in 1996 and 1998 respectively. [3] Åkerfeldt and Lindgren, the two remaining members of the band, asked drummer Martin Lopez and bassist Martín Méndez to join the band, both of whom accepted.
The ensuing argument played out with all the members of Opeth (aside from David) leaving. They renamed themselves Crowley and released a demo tape called "The Gate" in 1991. Isberg remained with Opeth until 1992. His duties as a lead singer were taken up by Åkerfeldt.
In September 2005, Bloodbath began searching for a new lead singer. [citation needed] In August 2006, the band announced the departure of Swanö due to musical differences, as well as Swanö being busy with other projects. They simultaneously closed the vocal auditions, announcing that no suitable singer had been found. [6]

Heritage is the tenth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth.It was released on 13 September 2011 through Roadrunner Records.The album was recorded in early 2011 at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm and produced by Mikael Åkerfeldt, engineered by Janne Hansson, and mixed by Steven Wilson (the first album since 2003's Damnation on which he worked with the band, although not as producer).
