Lakeside Shopping Center, or simply Lakeside, is a shopping mall located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, Louisiana, United States. It opened on March 24, 1960 as the first regional shopping mall in New Orleans and is the largest and busiest mall in Greater New Orleans.
LA 3046 began as part of the Greater New Orleans Expressway, a 1950s project to transform the century-old Harlem Avenue right-of-way into a multilane highway connecting U.S. 90 (Jefferson Highway), U.S. 61 (Airline Highway, now Drive), and Veterans Memorial Highway (now Boulevard) to the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway then under construction.
Veterans Boulevard was laid out alongside a drainage canal, and became a commercial center of the region. The central business district of Metairie is located on Causeway Boulevard near Lake Pontchartrain. Metairie also has one of the handful of major malls located in the New Orleans metro area.
The other main thoroughfare, Transcontinental Drive (State Route 1246), was intended to be extended south to Jefferson Highway (State Route 1) to connect with the Huey P.
