Barangay Bapor in earlier times was called "Puerto de San Antonio", then it was named Muelle later on, and then renamed "Eldorado", because this was the name of the Corporation which bought copra, the bodega of which was called El Dorado. In 1973, it was named bapor because of the ships that dock at Masbate wharf, which is found in the barangay.
Masbate, officially the Province of Masbate (Masbateño: Probinsya san Masbate; Tagalog: Lalawigan ng Masbate), is an island province in the Philippines located near the midsection of the nation's archipelago. Its provincial capital is Masbate City, the most populous in the province.
The district consists of six municipalities in the Burias and Ticao islands of northern Masbate, namely: Claveria and San Pascual in Burias island and Batuan, Monreal, San Fernando and San Jacinto in Ticao island. [4] It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Richard Kho of the Lakas–CMD. [5]
Masbate initially comprised a single district in 1898, when it elected two representatives to the Malolos Congress that lasted until 1899. The island of Burias, currently part of Masbate, also had a separate representation during such legislature. [1] Masbate later became part of the second district of Sorsogon from 1907 to 1922.
The other two major islands are Masbate Island (3,290 km 2 or 1,270 sq mi) and Burias Island (424 km 2 or 164 sq mi). [1] The island is divided into the municipalities of Batuan, Monreal, San Fernando and its mother-town, San Jacinto. San Miguel Island is located "just off the northern tip" of Ticao Island. [2]
