printf(string format, items-to-format) It can take one or more arguments, where the first argument is a string to be written. This string can contain special formatting codes which are replaced by items from the remainder of the arguments. For example, an integer can be printed using the "%d" formatting code, e.g.: printf("%d", 42);
printf is a C standard library function that formats text and writes it to standard output. The name, printf is short for print formatted where print refers to output to a printer although the functions are not limited to printer output. The standard library provides many other similar functions that form a family of printf-like functions.
For example, \11 is an octal escape sequence denoting a byte with decimal value 9 (11 in octal). However, \1111 is the octal escape sequence \111 followed by the digit 1 . In order to denote the byte with numerical value 1, followed by the digit 1 , one could use "\1""1" , since C concatenates adjacent string literals.
Standard keyboards transmit this code when the Ctrl and Z keys are pressed simultaneously (Ctrl+Z, often documented by convention as ^Z). [1] Unicode inherits this character from ASCII, but recommends that the replacement character ( , U+FFFD) be used instead to represent un-decodable inputs, when the output encoding is compatible with it.
If the terminating character is a letter, the letter is the keycode value, and the optional number is the modifier value. The modifier value defaults to 1, and after subtracting 1 is a bitmap of modifier keys being pressed: Meta+Ctrl+Alt+⇧ Shift. So, for example, <esc>[4;2~ is ⇧ Shift+End, <esc>[20~ is function key F9, <esc>[5C is Ctrl+→.
