An INF file (setup Information file) is an INI plain-text file used by Microsoft Windows-based operating systems for the installation of software and drivers. [1] INF files are most commonly used for installing device drivers for hardware components. [2] Windows includes the IExpress tool for the creation of INF-based installations.
The mere existence of an autorun.inf file on a medium does not mean that Windows will automatically read it or use its settings. How an inf file is handled depends on the version of Windows in use, the volume drive type and certain Registry settings. Assuming Registry settings allow AutoRun, then the following autorun.inf handling takes place:

Using another lower-level device driver (e.g. file system drivers using disk drivers) Simulating work with hardware, while doing something entirely different [9] For software: Allowing the operating system direct access to hardware resources; Implementing only primitives; Implementing an interface for non-driver software (e.g. TWAIN)
ChromeOS, sometimes styled as chromeOS and formerly styled as Chrome OS, is a Linux distribution developed and designed by Google. [8] It is derived from the open-source ChromiumOS operating system and uses the Google Chrome web browser as its principal user interface.
In Windows XP, drivers account for 85% of the reported failures. In the Linux kernel 2.4.1 device driver code accounts for about 70% of the code size. [2] The driver fault can crash the whole system as it is running in the kernel mode. These findings resulted in various methodologies and techniques for verification of device drivers.
IO.SYS initialises the minimal File Allocation Table driver and loads MSDOS.SYS into memory. It then displays "Starting Windows" depending on the Boot-Delay line in the MSDOS.SYS file. It then loads the LOGO.SYS file and displays a startup image on the screen. If the DRVSPACE.INI or DBLSPACE.INI file exists, it also loads drivers for compressed ...
Function drivers are written by the device vendors, and for their interaction with the hardware they depend on a specific bus driver being present in the Windows operating system. [1] Filter driver: This driver is optional, and can modify the behaviour of a device, such as input and output requests. These drivers can be implemented as lower ...
