Private schools in Sri Lanka can be classified into several categories: local curriculum, school, semi-government schools, and government-aided schools. Schools with a local curriculum adhere to national education standards, while those with an international curriculum offer qualifications recognized worldwide.
Primary and secondary education is free in Sri Lanka and is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Governments. Undergraduate education in state universities are free, but limited to less than 10% of the student population.

The Hardy Advanced Technological Institute [5] is located in Ampara, Sri Lanka.
