The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is the code department [1] [2] of the Illinois state government that administers state unemployment benefits, runs the employment service and Illinois Job Bank, and publishes labor market information. [3] As of 12 January 2015, Jeffrey D. Mays was the Director of Employment Security. [4]
In 1923, ownership changed again to the Illinois Power & Light Company. By the mid 1930s, ridership had declined and the system became Danville City Lines under National City Lines control in 1936. All streetcar service ended December 4, 1936, being replaced by buses, a mere 10 years after the first bus was introduced in Danville.
RTA was created after a referendum in 1974. In 1973, CTA had instituted its first major service cuts, [6] and several suburban bus companies, including Evanston Bus Company and Glenview Bus Company had ceased operations, forcing Evanston to make arrangements with CTA and Wilmette to start a municipal service.
The Illinois Traction Company began operations in 1915 and introduced the first buses in 1926. The last streetcar ran in 1931. Private bus companies continued operating the transit system in Galesburg until 1972, when the city of Galesburg took over operations.
The first intercity bus station in Chicago was the Union Bus Depot, which opened in 1928 at 1157 S. Wabash Ave. [2] Greyhound Lines and other operators used the station from 1928 until 1953. While the bus facilities are long gone, the station building itself still exists as of 2023. [ 1 ]
