C. Subramania Bharati [a] (born C. Subramaniyan 11 December 1882 – 12 September 1921) was an Indian writer, poet, journalist, teacher, Indian independence activist, social reformer and polyglot. He was bestowed the title Bharati for his poetry and was a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry.
Bharathi is a 2000 Indian Tamil-language biographical film based on the life of Subramania Bharati starring Sayaji Shinde, Devayani and Nizhalgal Ravi.The film was directed by Gnana Rajasekaran [2] and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for the year 2000.
The award was established by Kendriya Hindi Sansthan in 1989 on the name of the great Tamil writer Subramania Bharati.It was first awarded in the year 1989 to Dr. Prabhakar Machwe, Dr. Wrajeshhwar Verma, Dr. Hardev Bahri, Dr. N.A. Nagappa, Prof. Ram Singh Tomar, Dr. Bhakt Darshan, Dr. P. Gopal Sharma and Sri Mangalnath Singh.

Kanaka Subburathinam was born [2] [6] in Puducherry (earlier called Pondicherry) on 29 April 1891 to Kanagasabai Mudaliar and Lakshmi Ammal. He was deeply influenced by the Tamil poet and freedom fighter, Subramania Bharathi, [2] who mentored him and hence Subburathinam named himself "Bharathi dasan" meaning follower or adherent of Bharathi.

Padma Subrahmanyam was born to Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam, the Indian film director and Meenakshi Subrahmanyam on 4 February 1943 in Madras (now Chennai).Her father was a famous Indian filmmaker and her mother, Meenakshi was a music composer and a lyricist in Tamil and Sanskrit.
