3 Ranges Trail: 288.3 km (179.1 mi) a hiking trail that passes three mountain ranges, namely Thaba Putsoa Range, Central Range and ends at Drakensburg Range. It starts at Lesotho lowest point, at the confluence of Makhaleng and Senqu and ends at the country's highest point, Thabana Ntlenyane (3482m).
The highest points on any variant of the trail are the Col des Fours in France and the Fenêtre d'Arpette in Switzerland, both at an altitude of 2,665 m (8,743 ft). This is not high enough to cause altitude sickness for most people, nevertheless the trail provides a tough physical challenge.
Besides the original Haute Route, there is nowadays also a "Walker's" Haute Route, which is an alpine hiking trail that follows a network of well-marked and signposted paths.
