Fort Drum is a U.S. Army military reservation and a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson County, near the western border of northern New York, United States. The population of the CDP portion of the base was 12,955 at the 2010 census. [3] It is home to the 10th Mountain Division. Fort Drum consists of 107,265 acres (434.09 km 2).
When the 10th Mountain Division was reactivated on Fort Drum in 1984, General Carpenter was asked to live at the LeRay Mansion. This briefly gave the LeRay Mansion the nickname, “the General’s Mansion.” In 1988, General Carpenter gave the mansion over to the Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program.
The Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command was deactivated on 3 June 2011 in a ceremony at Fort Sam Houston.
