South Mountain Road is a winding, two-lane historic road on the northern border of New City, New York, a hamlet in Rockland County. Historic High Tor State Park is an attraction on South Mountain Road. [1] Also on the road is the Henry Varnum Poor House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. [2]
It is located just north of Old Sudbury Road, and is sited across what was formerly a channel of the Sudbury River, which now flows just west and north of the bridge. The four-arch bridge was built in 1848 by Josiah Russell on a site where it is supposed that the first bridge in Middlesex County was built in the 1640s.
French, who had the house built to his specifications as a studio space, used it for that purpose until 1888, when he moved to New York City. The Hubbard was later owned by historian Samuel Eliot Morison. [2] The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. [1]

Home Plate Farm was located on 558 Dutton Road in Sudbury, Massachusetts. It was owned by baseball legend Babe Ruth and his first wife Helen from 1916 to 1926. Ruth had previously rented a modest cottage on Willis Pond while still with the Red Sox. That is where a supposed piano sinking took place.
