Robert Charles Forsyth (born 8 June 1949) [5] is an Australian Anglican bishop who served as the Anglican Bishop of South Sydney, a region of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, from 2000 to 2015. Before this he was the rector of St. Barnabas, Broadway. Forsyth is married to Margie and has four children and ten grandchildren.
The original pews were made by local workers, but in 1939, St John's Church, Micklegate closed, and its pews were moved to St Barnabas. All but four of the pews were sold off in 2023, to make the church a more flexible space. [2] [3] The church is built of red brick, and consists of a nave with aisles and a chancel.
St. Barnabas has been an Anglo-Catholic parish in the Anglican Communion since its inception in 1889 in Stewarton. [1]The church, which opened in 1931, was designed by architect Colin M. Drewitt in a combination of Byzantine style and Romanesque style.
The Rt. Rev. Mark Van Koevering was consecrated as Bishop of Niassa, Mozambique, part of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, in 2003, where he served until November 2015. In November 2015, he moved back to the United States, to become the assistant bishop at the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia.
