Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic, ratified the convention on 20 March 1987. [3] As of 2022, Laos has three sites on the list. The town of Luang Prabang was listed in 1995, Vat Phou in 2001, and the Plain of Jars in 2019. [3] All three sites are cultural. In addition, Laos has two sites on its tentative list. [3]
Due to slash-and-burn rice farming in the mountains and valleys by Hmong and Khmu farmers, the Nam Si River experienced drought. After 1975, the Lao government relocated the hill tribes to other places in the area to restore natural resources. Only a few straw houses still remain around this place for foreign tourists.

Nam Et-Phou Louey National Park is a protected area in northern Laos, covering 4,107.1 km 2 (1,585.8 sq mi) in three provinces: Houaphan, Luang Prabang, and Xieng Khouang. It was designated a national park in 2019, and was previously designated a national protected area. [ 1 ]
The railway opened in 2021, and cross-border service between Laos and China began in 2023. Compared to its neighbour Thailand, Laos is a comparatively more difficult country to enter by air, especially via long-haul air routes. In 2024, there were over 46 million airline seats to Thailand, but less than 1.8 million going to Laos.
