The Pennsylvania Highlands also possess acknowledgement as a rural vacationing area and have even been recognized by the U.S. Forest Service as a "landscape of national significance" and by the State of New Jersey as a "Special Resource Area", none of which helps to protect it from the urban sprawl which threatens its natural resources each year.
Russell is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Pine Grove Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community is east of Lander and lies at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and Pennsylvania Route 957. It is drained by Conewango Creek. As of the 2024 census, the population was 1,342. [5]
As one of Penn Highlands' founding locations, it was acquired by the organization in 2011 and is a campus of PH DuBois. [4] The name was changed to Penn Highlands Clearfield in 2014. [2] in 2022, Penn Highlands acquired Clearfield EMS, an ambulance service that has operated since 1932. [10] [11]
The camping and picnic areas are located on the shores of the lake. There is a sand beach at Parker Lake that is open from 8:00 am until dusk from Memorial Day until the end of September. [2] Beginning in 2008 lifeguards will not be posted at the beach. [4] Boating on Parker Lake is limited to non powered and electric powered boats.
Laurel Hill State Park is a 3,935-acre (1,592 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Jefferson and Middlecreek Townships, Somerset County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Laurel Hill Lake is a 63-acre (25 ha) man-made lake with a dam that was constructed during the Great Depression by the young men of CCC camps NP-5-PA (first called SP-8-PA) and SP-15-PA.
Keystone State Park is a 1,200-acre (486 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Located off U.S. Route 22 near New Alexandria, the park opened in 1945.
The campground host site has amenities that include 50-amp electric service. The host is required to assist park personnel for 40 hours per week with an initial two-week stay. Contact the park office for additional information and availability. Camping Cottages: There are three camping cottages in the campground that comfortably sleep five people.
A CCC camp, Richmond Furnace Camp PA-SP-54, was built at the site of Cowans Gap State Park. At first the young men lived in tents , but they soon built cabins (which are still in use at the park).
